1860 Cavalry Saber
how much would a model 1860 Union Calvary saber go to auction for?
my great great grandfather joined the union cavalry when he immigrated to america. my family has been keeping his sword for the last 150 years. i have no plans to sell the sword, but i would like to know more about it (i.e. how much its worth, were was it made etc.)
i have seen similar saber’s on google images. each picture shows an exact replica of the sword, but leave out 1 thing… engravings. on the right side of the blade there is a floral design, along with a big “U.S.”. on the left side of the blade there is a similar floral design accept in the middle there is an eagle clutching a banner that reads “e. pluribus unum”. the hilt of the blade has been made into the shape of an eagle surrounded by 13 stars. and on the but (I’m assuming thats what the bottoms called) there is a patriotic shield, bearing stars and stripes.
Depending on the condition….around 800.
