Air Cavalry Squadron

Do cavalry units operate from helicopters anymore?
I know there are a few cavalry squadrons in the 101st, but are they air assault qualified? Are they essentially today’s version of the Air Cav?
Yes, Air Cav DOES exist.
There are several types of Air Cav. Helicopter Squadrons with Apache gunships and or observation helicopters fall under a cavalry lineage.
19D Cavalry Scouts also operate within both the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. The scouts in the 101st use the air assets of the Division to perform air mible/air assault missions as needed. In essense they are simply 19Ds that have the options of air mobility, as does most line infantry units in the 101st.
Airborne Cavalry squadrons exist within the 82nd Airborne and 25th Infantry Divisions. In the 82nd Airborne, these are the 73rd Cavarly Regiment squadrons, one per brigade. They operate as light cav with the options of airborne deployment.
While aircraft are not organic to the cavalry squadrons like they were in the 1960s, the Soldiers still train in the specialized skills such as air assault and airborne, as well as the traditional 19D cavalry roles, dismounted recon, and in vehicles. This allows a lot of flexibility for the brigade recon assets depending on mission.
