Civil War Archives
In 1861, did the East India Company offer any trades to the Confederate States of America?
I’m trying to get an idea of what would have happened if the South (a.k.a. “Confederate States of America”) had won the Civil War. This means I need to know what decisions were made to make the Confederacy weak, and what decisions could have been made to strengthen it. Such as this.
I tried to google it, but the one source that has specific information isn’t very reliable. The actual archives are located in the U.K. in the British Library, and aren’t available online.
If you’re answering this, citation of a worthy website is preferred.
I don’t know if you will find an answer here, but it is a valuable resource for trade concerning the East India Trading Company. In it’s heyday Salem Massachusetts was considered the most important trade harbor in the U.S. The EITC figures prominently in that history.

This is a library collection at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.
If that doesn’t help, you should be able to find many references to EITC in other Salem archives.
