I would say that malfunction of the artillery was not a cause. The guns worked well for those three days. There were break downs in the chain of command, JEB Stuart was missing for most of the battle. Troops did advance without orders and at least during Pickett’s Charge the fences remained in place until soldiers reached them. Hope it helps, good luck to you.
