Civil War name badges help?
My grandfather gave me a very special gift for Christmas. He found a name badge that belonged to my great-great-great grandfather when he was in the 43rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. I have searched online to see how much it actually would be worth but have found nothing. I would never sell it because of it’s sentimental value, but curiosity has me wondering just how much it would go for. Does anyone know a website where I can find this information?
ifoyo-I think they are recognized as much as WWII or any other veterans. They just aren’t as widely aknowledged because they aren’t alive anymore. And I never intended to sell it…did you miss that part of my question? I am just curious as to how rare it is (if at all) and how much they have been going for. It’s curiosity, really. It would be the same if I had a rare baseball card. I wouldn’t sell it, but I want to know how much it is worth.
I know that name badges in the CW are very rare (that they survive at all). Take it to a gun show or a museum near you for a statement of value. Check out this web site – they may just be able to help ya.
