Dismounted Cavalry
Whats its like being Cavalry Scouts?
Do they roll in Bradley’s all day or is it dismounted ops too?
Do they conduct similar duties as Infantry in Afghanistan since its all mountains?
Kind of like being a jack of all trades. Being in circumstantial conditions you have to be prepared with a variety of things other than recon. To be honest recon these days is often not the job of the scout. More than anything else it is combat patrols in either a HMMWV (humvee) or a Bradley, Bradley’s suck by the way unless you are a small guy and can get into akward positions. Also pulling security at various places such as Entry Control Points, Traffic Check Points or perhaps static security at just about anywhere. You must be proficient in a lot of areas as I already stated such as combat ops., first aid, commo, mechanic duties and more pending on what the unit may need. To the second and third quetions, we also conduct dismounted patrol when needed, whatever the situtation calls best for. Be it by foot and crawling through a swamp or watching from afar with an LRAS. IT has also been said that we are a lot like the infantry except we don’t walk everywhere.
