Heavy Cavalry Saber
What was the usage of the heavy cavalry in 17th-18th century ?
I know they charged the infantry first, then they go in melee fight, but were they better than the line infantry and the other infantry units in melee fights ?
another question, could they easily kill men by charging them ? because they some of the heavy cavalry regiments had sabers and now lances or spears, so how was the strength of the charge?
In the 17th century the use of ‘dragoons’, horse mounted infantry, was widely used as shock troops and eventually by the 18th century was absorbed into the calvarly broadening the scope and purpose of the calvalry itself – acting independently of support troops and operating far into the enemy’s rear.
