Crossed Cannons Insignia
SC 028 - ARTILLERY HAT INSIGNIA - This is the 1858 pattern, die-struck brass, 3 1/4" wide. Four wire loop fasteners soldered on the back, which have rusted off. This was probably worn on the 1858 black felt hat. This example is a little wavy but it's completely intact & was eyeballed in 1933 by Charles Whiting. *324.99 LIMITED TIME $279.00
Early Pattern Insignia
SC 032 - 1812 PATTERN DRAGOON INSIGNIA - 1812 pattern Dragoon insignia. Die-struck brass, these are very scarce & desirable hat plates. C.1825-1845, worn by the volunteer militia & dragoons. This example is about 85% complete. Ref. Figure 569 page 243 of O'Donnell & Campbell, "This exact style of cap & plate appeared in an 1859 advertisement by Horstmann Brothers & Allien as a "Trooper's Helmet." As a measure of its enduring popularity, this style was also advertised during the Civil War (1864) by the renowned military supply firm of Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of N.Y. City." Hardee Hat Pin Insignia
SC 002- HARDEE HAT INSIGNIA - original 1858 pattern hat insignia dug in the Petersburg, Virginia vicinity. It has nice, sharp detail and a smooth, chocolate brown patina. The picture in the background is taken from Stanley Phillips Excavated Artifacts book. The hooks in the back are missing, as can be expected. SC 027 -INFANTRY HAT INSIGNIA - This artifact was "eyeballed" early by Charles Whiting at Brandy Station, Virginia. It's figure 363 on page 154 of Campbell & O'Donnell's reference book on headgear. The mouthpiece has been repaired. *$104.99 Sold
