Crossed Cannons Insignia

SC 028 - ARTILLERY HAT INSIGNIA - This is the 1858 pattern, die-struck brass, 3 1/4" wide. Four wire loop fasteners soldered on the back, which have rusted off.  This was probably worn on the 1858 black felt hat.  This example is a little wavy but it's completely intact & was eyeballed in 1933 by Charles Whiting.   *324.99  LIMITED TIME $279.00

SC 032 - 1812 PATTERN DRAGOON INSIGNIA - 1812 pattern Dragoon insignia.  Die-struck brass, these are very scarce & desirable hat plates.  C.1825-1845, worn by the volunteer militia & dragoons.  This example is about 85% complete.  Ref. Figure 569 page 243 of O'Donnell & Campbell, "This exact style of cap & plate appeared in an 1859 advertisement by Horstmann Brothers & Allien as a "Trooper's Helmet."  As a measure of its enduring popularity, this style was also advertised during the Civil War (1864) by the renowned military supply firm of Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of N.Y. City."  Dug in Nottoway County, Virginia.    Sold

 

Hardee Hat Pin Insignia

SC 002- HARDEE HAT  INSIGNIA -  original 1858 pattern hat insignia dug in the Petersburg, Virginia vicinity.  It has nice, sharp detail and a smooth, chocolate brown patina.  The picture in the background is taken from Stanley Phillips Excavated Artifacts book.  The hooks in the back are missing, as can be expected.  These are very desirable and very hard to find artifacts.    $115.00     Sold

SC 027 -INFANTRY HAT INSIGNIA - This artifact was "eyeballed" early by Charles Whiting at Brandy Station, Virginia.  It's figure 363 on page 154 of Campbell & O'Donnell's reference book on headgear.  The mouthpiece has been repaired.   *$104.99   Sold
